The ingredients needed to make Cardamom and orange Doughnuts:
  1. Get 500 grams Bread flour
  2. Make ready 80 grams Sugar
  3. Prepare 2 envelope Freeze-dried bread yeast
  4. Take 1 tsp Salt
  5. Prepare 250 grams Milk
  6. Make ready 1 Egg
  7. Take 40 grams Softened butter
  8. Make ready 1 Vegetable oil
  9. Take 1 Orange peel
  10. Make ready 5 Grains of cardamom

Bite-sized donut holes are the perfect breakfast treat. These are an upscale version, made with sweet potatoes and a cardamom-orange glaze. I flavored the doughnuts with the zest of blood orange and cardamom; the two go really well together. I went with a simple glaze of powdered sugar and the juice from a blood orange, which made the doughnuts tangy.

Steps to make Cardamom and orange Doughnuts:
  1. Put the flour, the sugar and the two envelopes of yeast into a big bowl.
  2. Add the salt, putting it on the side so as to not touch the yeast.
  3. Open the grains of cardamom. Inside there are a little pieces of black seeds. Put the seed on a mortar and grind them whit the pestle.
  4. Also add the orange peel at the last point. We will use a fine grater, being careful with not to peel any of the white part of the orange.
  5. Crush the cardamom seeds and the orange peel with the pestle. Then add it to the bowl with the rest of the ingredients.
  6. Mix it well using a spatula and add the milk and the egg. Keep mixing until the dough doesn't stick on the sides of the bowl.
  7. Place the mixture onto a clean counter and knead it with your hands. Add flour as needed.
  8. When we get a homogeneous dought ball, we will add the softened butter in the center. Work, again, the dough until the butter evenly built. Add flour as needed, and be patient!
  9. When the dought is not sticky, shape it into a ball and cover with a clean towel. Let it rise for one hour.
  10. When the dough has matured, knead it whit a rolling pin, until it is half an inch thick.
  11. Then start cutting the donuts with help of two cut rings with different sizes. You can use a water glass and a soda top. Place the donuts onto a wax paper and cover it whit a clean towel. Let them sit for one hour.
  12. Time to fry! Use a deep pan with plenty of oil, which can't be too cold or too hot. Fry the donuts until gold on both sides.
  13. To finish, let's make the glaze. In a small bowl, add warm water and icing sugar and mix it until the glaze gets a white sticky appearance.
  14. Rub the donuts with the glaze using a paint brush. Let them dry before you eat.
