Hey everyone, it is me again, Dan, welcome to our recipe page. Today, I’m gonna show you how to prepare a special dish, karelian hot pot. One of my favorites. This time, I am going to make it a bit unique. This is gonna smell and look delicious.

Karelian hot pot is one of the most favored of recent trending foods in the world. It’s enjoyed by millions every day. It is easy, it’s fast, it tastes delicious. Karelian hot pot is something which I have loved my whole life. They’re nice and they look wonderful.

The term Karelian hot pot can be used to refer to nearly any food that contains meat and that is prepared in this traditional Karelian fashion. Due to the scarceness of meat in the past, the hot pot was traditionally only prepared for festive occasions. Karelian Hot Pot or Karjalan Paisti in Finnish is a traditional meat stew from the region of Karelia (now split between Finland and Russia). It's commonly made with a combination of pork and beef but other proteins, like lamb, can be used.

The ingredients needed to make Karelian hot pot:
  1. Prepare 2/3 pound pork
  2. Make ready 2/3 pound chuck, beef
  3. Make ready 2/3 pound lamb
  4. Get 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  5. Take 8 allspice berries
  6. Prepare 2 medium onions
  7. Prepare to taste ground black pepper
  8. Take 2 cups lamb broth see recipe

Place half of the sliced onions in the bottom of the crockpot, cover with half of the meat, and sprinkle with half of the salt, peppercorns, allspice, and a bay leaf. Karelian Hot Pot Keto, or karjalanpaisti as it's originally called, is a traditional dish from Finland. Since my partner has family in Finland this lovely dish was introduced into my life. The dish reminds me of a traditional Swedish dish called Kalops, but in this one you use both pork and beef.

Instructions to make Karelian hot pot:
  1. Preheat oven 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Chop the onions, cut the meat into bite sized pieces, crush the allspice berries.
  3. Layer the lamb in the bottom of pot add half a teaspoon salt and pepper. Add a third of the allspice. Now add half the onion covering the lamb
  4. Now add pork on top of the onion. On the pork add half teaspoon salt, pepper to taste, and a third of the allspice. add rest of onions on top.
  5. Last layer add add beef, season with 1/3 of the allspice half teaspoon of salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Pour your lamb broth just covering the top.
  7. Braise in the oven 2-1/2 to 3 hours.

Since my partner has family in Finland this lovely dish was introduced into my life. The dish reminds me of a traditional Swedish dish called Kalops, but in this one you use both pork and beef. Don't trim the visible fat from the pork prior to. Considered by many to be the national dish of Finland, Karelian Hot Pot proves that frugality is indeed a virtue—after slow and steady simmering, cheap cuts of meat become melt-in-your-mouth tender.
