Rava dhokla with step by step photos. Steamed, soft and fluffy cake made from rava or semolina. This instant dhokla recipe I learnt when I was working in a school. Rava/Suji is mixed with yogurt, ginger, turmeric (optional), green chilies (optional), salt, water, oil, and ENO (fruit salt).

The ingredients needed to make Rava Dokhala:
  1. Prepare 2 cups Rava
  2. Get 2 cups Buttermilk
  3. Make ready As per taste Salt
  4. Make ready As required Water
  5. Get 1 tsp Soda(eno)

Rice, Chana dal and Urad dal are the main ingredients to prepare traditional Dhokla. Overnight soaking, grind and then fermentation is involved in traditional method but to make it instant, I use Soji and Besan. Quick video, step wise pictures post. I thought rava dhokla to be same as rava idli and did not want to try it out.

Instructions to make Rava Dokhala:
  1. Mix rava and Buttermilk and keep it for 1 hour.
  2. Then mix salt and soda and give it a good mix
  3. Add water if needed to make the batter semi solid
  4. Apply oil to the pan and pour the batter in the pan
  5. Take a steam for 20mins and then check it. Poke it with a toothpick and if the batter doesn't touch it then the dokhla is baked or else take steam for more 5mins.
  6. Give a nice tadaka of Rai and jeer with pinch of asafoetida.garnish with coriander.

Today thought of giving it a try (adapted from here) as it is easy and was wanting to post something in blog. This rava dhokla has soft and fluffy texture. This is a healthy snack as it is steamed and very less oil is used to make tempering.
