The ingredients needed to make Rava Idli:
  1. Get 1 cup Rava/Sooji
  2. Get 2 tsp Oil
  3. Get 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  4. Get 2 tsp Bengal Gram Dal
  5. Get 2 tsp Urad Dal
  6. Prepare 6-7 Cashew nuts
  7. Prepare 1/2 tsp Ginger finely chopped
  8. Take 1 Green Chilli finely chopped
  9. Take 2 tsp Curry leaves finely chopped
  10. Prepare 1 pinch Asafoetida
  11. Prepare 2 tsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
  12. Get 1 pinch Baking Soda
  13. Prepare 1/2 cup Curd
  14. Get Water-as needed
  15. Get Salt-as per your taste

Idli Sambar, a soft and spongy round shaped steamed rice-lentil cake accompanied with Sambar and White Coconut Chutney, is a traditional and healthy breakfast from South Indian cuisine. Idli can be prepared from either plain rice or rice rava (aka Idli Rava or Cream of Rice), urad dal and fenugreek seeds. The addition is simple spices like ginger and curry leaves, makes this dish bring out the flavors of the steamed rava idli. Instead of using the traditional rice and urad dal mixture, rava idli is made with a mixture of semolina, yogurt, and a leavening agent.

Instructions to make Rava Idli:
  1. In a kadai, roast the rava in medium flame for 3 mins. Transfer to a bowl.
  2. In the same kadai, add oil. Once oil gets heat, add mustard seeds, bengal gram dal and urad dal. Fry it.
  3. Then add asafoetida, cashewnuts, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and coriander leaves. Saute for 2 mins.
  4. Switch off the flame. Add rava and mix well. Let it cool completely. Transfer to a bowl.
  5. Add curd, baking soda, salt and required water. Mix well without lumps. The batter must be like idli batter consistency. Cover and keep aside for 30 mins.
  6. Mix well. If needed add extra water.
  7. Grease the idli plates with some oil and pour the batter in it. Steam cook for 10 mins.
  8. Now it's ready to serve with green coconut chutney.
